Rock and roll in the 80’s

It was during the 80’s that the music sound Heavy Metal was introduced in to the UK and new wave bands came to the forefront. In the US, artists such as Donnie Iris, Bob Seger and Bruce Springsteen gave rock and roll a familiar beat and sound.
Rock and roll in the 80’s was beginning to be fused with other sounds, especially folk music from all over the world. The term World Music was formed and brought a variety of sounds and feelings together.

There were also more styles of rock evolving, particularly thrash metal. Bands under this category would include Metallica and Megadeth – these also became extremely popular and considered to be good enough to be mainstream.
Glam Metal was also considered to be a fusion of rock and roll and other forms of music. Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, Queen, Twisted sister and Kiss were all considered to be glam metal. Glam metal was a new form of rock and roll and focused on the bands being a little rough around the edges rather than very clean cut.
Rock and roll also gave way to instrumental rock in the 80’s. Guitars became the main focus and rippling rifts were heard all over the world. Guitarists such as Steve Morse, George Lynch and Steve Vai made hauntingly beautiful songs.
Rock and roll is still the foundation for the majority of the sounds heard today. They have all been adapted and reborn through a variety of instruments and technology.
